Missions

BASIC MISSIONS:

This category of missions are those most suited to new players be that corporate groups, sports teams or birthday parties. These missions entail breaking the group into two teams of roughly even size. The focus is on having fun.

Some of the missions offered by Laser Assault are:

Death Match

This mission is what we run at the start of all beginner sessions. We do this mission because regardless of the skill level of a player, they are guaranteed to play the whole mission. This is especially popular with birthday parties for young children.

A death match is simply one team versus the other for a set period of time, typically 30 minutes. The only objective is to eliminate as many members of the other team while ensuring that your own team suffers minimal casualties. The best way to do this is to split the players up into two roughly even teams and move them to different areas of the battlefield, ideally out of sight of each other.

Once the teams are well apart the players should have their guns turned on and set to maximum hit points. Once the teams are in position the referees blow their whistles and it is game on. When a player is dead they are not out of the game, they must simply return to their starting point and get brought back to life by the staff. At the end of time, the team that has used the least amount of replacements/re-spawns plus currently dead is declared the winner.

Base Assault

A Base Assault is where one teams objective is defend a base normally a building, flag or some other landmark such as a hill top. It is one team's job to protect the base and keep the enemy out of that base. The other team's function it to take control of that base in the set time frame. One team is led to the pre-determined base and gets ready for the assault. The other team is taken away to its entry point. Each time is given a set number of re-spawns or replacements, typically the attackers get one re-spawn per player in their team and the defenders 80% (for example a defending team of 20 players would get 16 re-spawns). The number of replacements can be changed to take into account how easily the base is defended or attacked. You want to try and keep the mission open, and winnable for both teams.

In this mission once a team has used their quota of re-spawns the players that die after that time remain dead until the end of the mission. This ensures that the end of the mission is very open and exciting. The winner is decided by whichever team controls the base or has the most living members in or around the base (typically 5 metres of the flag).

VIP Escort

The VIP escort mission is an excellent choice for a group looking for a mission with more options and tactics with less shooting. The VIP escort is essentially the classic ex-filtration mission to a Landing Zone (LZ) which a "Very Important Person" (VIP) must be taken to safety across enemy territory.

This mission is played on battlefields with a very high level of cover so that there are multiple pathways that can be taken by the escort team. The cover provides opportunities for the ambush team to setup un-detected. The ambush team can setup anywhere they like in 2/3's of the battlefield. The escort team deploys at the extreme boundary of the other 1/3 of the battlefield.

One of the things that make this mission a little more challenging and slower in pace is there are no re-spawns for either team. Knowing they can be shot out of the mission if they are reckless or unlucky makes this a very intense experience for the players, and is therefore not designed for beginners.

Sniper

This mission is ideal for small groups as it sees a small group of snipers being hunted down by a patrol of enemy troops. We do not recommend this mission for more than 16 players (12 hunters and 4 snipers). This mission can work well with 2 hunters and 1 sniper so it's ideal for those times when you need a mission for just a few players.

For every 4 players, there should be 1 sniper and 3 hunters. Snipers are armed with telescopic Morita set on BAM (Bolt Action Mode) and have 3 hit points. The Hunters are allowed unlimited re-spawns obtained from the entry point into the battlefield. Snipers get no re-spawns. Typically the snipers are given 5 minutes to get into position and get ready and must remain in the designated area.

For every kill the sniper gets 10 points rewarded to them. The Hunters get 30 victory points for every Sniper they can kill. Once all the snipers are dead or the hunters can no longer win, the game is over.
